Fuchsia Billy Green

In the spirit of trying to wear more of my clothes, I finally decided to wear this parka to work the other day. I had purchased it two years ago, mainly for its vibrant color but also because I thought I would need it while traveling abroad. This was right before Corona arrived and messed up our lives. This parka had been sitting in my closet for two long years because it was never too cold to wear it.

Scarf - old
Fuchsia Parka-
Pleated skirt - thrifted
Tee and Slingbacks - Numero Uno

That quickly changed at the beginning of february. The weather was finally cooperating. On a brisk tuesday morning, I wore the parka to work. I paired it with a pleated skirt and matching slingbacks.

I love parkas. When I was living in Japan, I used to pair them with mainly jeand and pants but also some skirts from time to time. However, I would have never thought about this combination, living in my city. A true Senegalese fashionista would have worn the skirt with a blazer or the parka with some denim. I actually like the contrast of the two colors of fuchsia and green more thant the mix of styles in this outfit. It is so in your face. I have been color-blocking for a long time now (in and out of this blog here and here). Yet I am always surprised at the results.

Once you remove the jacket, the outfit is kind of blah; it is just a tee and a skirt, perfect to blend in at work. That is what I like about playing with layers: an outfit can change when you remove a piece, or add another.

The final touch to this outfit is this Frog bracelet I purchased back in december at the market. It seemed like a fun jewelry to have for days I wanted to be playful. I added a matching ring I have had for ages now.

Needless to say that I received many compliments on the outfit. Some of my colleagues even went so far as to say that I was glowing. Maybe the fuchsia of the parka made my skin pop. Or the few days I stayed in quarantine inside my house when I had Covid kind of paid off (lol). Or maybe it was because I tried a new make up, and added some red lisptick. I actually went overboard with the foundation. My face looks too bright for comfort.

I cannot wait to create more interesting outfits based on clothes I never wear. It is interesting but the true challenge is also to keep on wearing them.
