Out of the city

Image
Hello everyone! It is getting chilly in my hometown of Dakar and I could not be happier. The heat we had back in October was unbearable. Speaking of heat, I took advantage of the long weekend we had when celebrating Mawlid to get out of the city with the boys and my brother's family.  We went to Mbour again, to a place called Saly Niakh Niakhal. I booked an entire house on Airbnb once again for a very reasonable price. This time we had a two-story house with four bedrooms and two living rooms. The house also had a pool and a parking place with three kitchens and a huge terrace. The house was a bit dainty but we felt really comfortable. It comes with a security guard who stays on-site and a maid who comes in the morning to clean. The boys enjoying Netflix in the living room The pool area During our stay, we did absolutely nothing except swim in the pool, watch Netflix, cook, eat, and take pictures. The house was quiet and one could retreat inside the rooms and rest. We did manage

Gingham, Print and Stripe collection

Hello my dears! If you are following me, you know that I have launched my brand some time at the end of last year. It has been over 9 months now since I sold my first item. I have sold many more, thank God. But I will not be channeling Chanel anytime soon. I am still learning about the entire business, particularly the business aspect of it: pricing, marketing, selling, budgeting. When it comes to creating, I sometimes have to stop myself because I am bursting with ideas and I want to do it all. But I am not business savvy. Thankfully, I am surrounded by good people who give me extremely helpful advice.    Anyway, today I wanted to give you a glimpse of what I do. I always wear other people's clothes on this blog. Why not showcase mine? This dress is part of my latest collection made in Gingham, stripes and prints. I am still having a gingham/plaid moment, and stripes are like one my fave print/pattern of all times (I have so many stripes in my closet, it is crazy). So why not comb

The good girl

Image
All my life I have been a good girl. Was I an unruly child? No! I was (and still is) a stubborn kid but...When I was a toddler, I would climb on furniture and try to jump from one chair to another. That is how I fell and had to get stitches on my chin.  As a teenager I would sometimes not listen to my parents when it came to visiting boys. And more than once I told them I was going to stay at my cousin's house for the weekend so that I could get a chance to go out dancing with her and her friends.  But a part from that, I was a good girl. I did not talk back to adults, did mostly what I was told to do, and did not get involved in any shenanigans. Even when I lived abroad by myself, the most outrageous thing I have done was having a boyfriend, living next door to him (he ended up marrying me)   Lace sleeves tee - Numero Uno Tutu - thrifted Feathered mules - Centenaire market Stacked necklace - HLM market One day when I was living in the US, my colleagues asked me what was the crazie

Game night (La Maison du Burger review)

Bonjour! How y'all doing? Today I am writing about a new place I discovered recently. It is a restaurant called "La Maison du Burger" which translate to "The House of the Burger". As the name indicates, it is a restaurant that serves burgers. It is located less than 10 minutes walk from my house, which is very convenient. It is a family run business.  Scarf - Thrifted Tank top & Kimono - Gift Jeans - Thrift Sandals - Sandaga market   The place itself is not too big but it is nicely decorated in vibrant colors. There is also an outdoor seating area in the back. The speciality of the place are burgers, but they are a bit different from your usual. They add interesting ingredients such as cheese, apple, vegetable confit. It makes for a delicious burger. As for the meat, there are a variety you can choose from: chicken, beef, and even lamb.  Playing Uno The first time I went there, it was raining heavily so we just did take away. But this time I wanted the kids

Me, myself and I

So I did something I have been dreaming of doing for quite some time: I booked a room in a hotel in the city. The plan was to get away somewhere nicer in the country such as our coast or Sine Saloum. But such trip involves a car. And since I do not have any, I gave up on that idea. And I am not willing to get on a bus with other people for long hours during this pandemic. I also had the opportunity to book a trip via agencies but they were either out of my budget or never at the right time for me. So after searching for weeks, I just booked a room at the Savana Hotel in the city. Savana hotel is a very old hotel in Dakar probably older than me. I used it last year to celebrate my youngest's birthday with the entire family. This time I booked a room for one night because I found a good deal on the internet. With the recession caused by the coronavirus, a lot of hotels in the country have been forced to reduce their prices or offer limited time deals. Prices are often slashed in ha

Djinn Boyfriend (Farrou Rap)

Hello my dears.  It has been more than a year since I posted about my love life or lack there of. I thought I would give you a little update. I hope you are interested.  Dress - tailor made Simple version of the KOONI dress from my latest collection Shoes - Adanif However, I am not going to just talk about my love life. Today I want to brush the subject of "Farrou Rap". A "Farrou Rap" can be loosely translated to "Djinn Boyfriend". A djinn can be described as a super natural being in Islamic Arabic mythology. In my country it is believed that women who are unlucky in love have djinn boyfriends. I actually saw an entire list of all the "symptoms" of having a djinn boyfriend on Twitter recently, and sadly I think I have some of them. But first let me share them with y'all so you have an idea of what I am talking about. Basically the post on Twitter says that these below are the symptoms of having a djinn boyfriend: - does not want to get marr
