Psychedelic

Hello! I recently took some time off work and went on a short trip outside Dakar. I will tell you all about it in future posts. But to prepare for this trip, I went shopping. For some reason, I always want to new things for my trips. Most of the time, I really do not need to shop but it has become a (bad) habit of mine. I have been doing it ever since I started travelling on my own some 20 years ago.   Bucket hat - Chez Rasta Restaurant  Dress - Centenaire market Sandals and lace crop top - Petersen market Accessories - Numero Uno  On my list of things I thought I needed for a five day trip were: a white maxi dress, a printed dress, some golden sandals, a bucket hat, a huge straw hat and leopard sunglasses. However, since I am cheap I decided to check the market first. After an entire day walking around two markets I found this dress, the leopard print sunglasses and the golden sandals. I immediately fell in love with the colors and prints. The price was also very ch...

Love Language

Image
What is your love language? What is a love language? It is a way of expressing and receiving love. It is the way you communicate with your partner. There are as many love languages as people as we are all different and want and need different things.  Scarf - Sinniature Dress & sandals - Thrifted Tank - gifted Watch - Xalam (borrowed) Earrings - Numero Uno  I have been thinking about my love language a lot recently. I had to rely heavily on my past experiences. I realized that nobody I have ever been with loved me the way I wanted to be loved. I am not sure if it is because I could not communicate what I wanted or because I was in relationships with emotionally unavailable men? Maybe both. But I am not going to bash my past relationships. Instead, I am beating myself up because I have noticed that I tend to do this one thing on repeat when I am involved with someone. And that is "to front". I never really say how I feel. It is becoming such a bad habit. For some reas...

Safari at Bandia Reserve

Image
Bonjour Today I would like to talk about a fabulous experience I recently shared with my boys: I took them on a safari at Bandia, outside of the city.  For a while now, I had been wanting to go to the Bandia reserve . It is a reserve that offers a safari with wild animals such as lions, zebras etc.. Recently I found an opportunity on Instagram with a travel agency I have been following. The price was so cheap I had to book for me and the boys.  Scarf - sandaga market Denim jacket - thrifted Top & sunglasses - Kiabi Jeans - old Sandals - thrifted So here we were on a Sunday morning finally doing a safari. We took the bus provided by the agency  not far from my house. We travelled for an hour and arrived at the reserve. After waiting a while, we got on huge safari buses with a guide and departed. The reserve is quite big, with lots of trees. But it is not green. It really looks like a savanna with baobab and thorny trees. We went on dirt roads trying to spot as ma...

Teranga Movies Award Second Edition

Image
Last night was wild. Strike that! Yesterday was wild.  I had a full busy day. Originally I was only supposed to go to my tailors, then drop at my Alma Mater's BBQ, then go do some mani pedi with my best friend. Just before I was to go for mani pedi, a friend of mine called to say that she had tickets to the Teranga Movie Awards .  Teranga Movies awards is this award show that started barely two years ago. It was created by the "Cinéma 221" association, whose founding members are Senegalese cinema professionals. It is to promote Senegalese cinema and  TV, but also to celebrate its actors, technicians, producers. Two years ago, I went to the first edition with my friend. We had a grand of a time, although to be frank, the event was a tad small. Last year, due to corona, it did not happen.  Dress and Headwrap (Moussor) - Sinniature Bag - thrifted Shoes - Numero Uno When I heard about it, I wanted to go because I thought it would be fun to see all the local stars....

Kotao brunch

Image
Hello Everyone How is Summer treating you? Did you make plans to travel? As for me, I am super busy at work to even think about vacations or travelling; Still I find little ways to get out and enjoy myself during this season. One of my favorite activity to do is Brunch. Dakar is a city that offers so many good places to eat in general. For brunching, I have to say that we are spoiled. Recently I went back to Kotao Coffee, a nice little restaurant in Almadies area with my brother and his family.  White ruffle shirt - street vendor at Sandaga market Jeans - Marwa Fashion Boutique Bucket bag- thrifted Mules - Class  Jewelry - HLM market  I have been there before, last year. One morning tired of working at home, I decided to check it out. Then I had the salmon avocado sandwich with some hot cocoa. I had a nice time but I found the place to be tiny. This time, it seems like they renovated and added more space. There are more seats and nice little areas where one could take pic...

Goree (Solo trip)

Image
Hello Hello! A while back, I took some time off just to relax far away from everything. I wanted to isolate myself somewhere in the country since I am not so keen on international travel at the moment. My sight was set on Goree Island that I love so much. So I booked a room through Airbnb for two nights in the middle of the week.  I stayed for three days doing absolutely nothing except, relaxing, reading books, watching movies and walking around the island. I also did a bit of work on my side hustle. You know, I had to seize the opportunity and all. But I had so much fun, it did not feel like work at all.  Scarf - (old) from India Top - Kiabi Skirt  and bag- Numero Uno Sandals - Thrifted This time, the island felt very different. It is usually packed with tourits even during what we consider the low season. But because of Covid, the tourists have decreased. Restaurants are operating but you only see a couple of customers here and there. The same can be said about mu...

The slip skirt

Image
Hey y’all! A few months ago I was having an exchange with a friend on Instagram. She was rocking a slip skirt and I asked her where she got it from. She told me that if I was to buy the skirt and not wear it , there was no point in her telling me. The thing is she knows me too well. She knows I do not wear anything too revealing or too sexy. And let us be real, those skirts can be sexy. What she told me felt like a challenge. I had to go and get myself one of those skirts. And I got so lucky I scored two of them on sale.  I got to wear one of them for an afternoon out with some girlfriends.  Blazer - thrifted but from Kiabi  Top - thrifted Skirt - Numero Uno Sandals - Sandaga market  Earrings, necklace and sunglasses - Numero Uno My first option for styling this skirt was to pair it with this oversized blazer. After all I am still not confident enough. The blazer will hide all the areas I have a problem showing. It would have probably been better with a belt but I wa...
