#FreeSenegal - Education- Reform- Reconciliation

Image
Hello Hello I have not blogged since April 27th, and I am sorry about it. I did plan to post something for May but life...happened.  Since the last time I blogged, I got increasingly busy at work, I tried to revive my business, socialized a tiny bit, and help my first born prepare for his exams. However, my life came to a stop a few weeks back. Whether you are aware or not, my country Senegal has been experiencing political unrest in the past weeks. It started two years ago. I think I did blog about it here . But just as an update, know that the main opposition leader, Ousmane Sonko, that was accused of rape has finally been found guilty of corrupting the youth. He is sentenced to 2 years in jail, which would make him ineligible to be a presidential candidate for February 2024. Before the verdict, he had been apprehended by law enforcement and was on house arrest in his residence because he refused to attend the trials but also because he has called for insurrection. What...

PMS

PMS: Premenstrual syndrom or a group of symptoms that occur in women between ovulation and period. Most of us women have experienced them at least once every month since we hit puberty. And if you have not, consider yourself chosen by God. Scarf - street vendor Dress - Sandaga market Suede jacket, Sunglasses, Bag - Numero Uno Espadrilles - Thrifted Today I am going to discuss PMS, but bear in mind that I will discuss my own experience. I do not know a lot about other women and how they feel except from the recurrent complaints I heard from my girlfriends. Aujourd'hui, je vais discuter du SPM, mais gardez à l'esprit que je vais parler de ma propre expérience. J...

The last 10 days (Ramadan)

Image
Hello Everyone! It has been a while since I last posted on my blog. I apologize. I am not sure what kept me away. I guess I was just not inspired to do so. Dress - Tetatou Bag - Gift from Zambia Shoes - Zara via Numero Uno Since March 23rd, Muslims all over the world have started fasting for the Holy Month of Ramadan. We fast from dawn till dusk and it means that we do not eat nor drink. But Ramadan is not only to deprive yourself of food, it is a way to get closer to God as you have to be on your best behavior and pray more.  This Ramadan I did not feel as tired as the previous ones. As I am working from home now, I do not need to commute. It also means that I do not need to bother figuring out what to wear, and rushing to get out to find a cab to take me to the office on time. It also means I do not stay in traffic trying to return home in the afternoon. For that I am blessed.    Fasting also is not a huge burden as I am used to it. I did have a slight headache th...

Streetwear at 40!

Image
Hi y'all! I am turning 43 this year, God willing. And I still wear jeans and sneakers. When I was younger, I was sure that by the time I turn 40, I would start dressing in a more conservative way, the way older respectable women dress in my country: mostly in Senegalese traditional attire or "tradimoderne", which is a new term to define a mix of old and new in Senegalese fashion.  Yet here I am. I think I have told you before that my uniform was a pair of jeans, a blouse and some flat shoes, most likely sandals. When it gets cold like these past days, I would add a sweater or a jacket and some slipons. For work, I try to keep the look elevated with blouses, formal slacks, blazers, skirts and pumps. When I go out, I usually grab a dress. And on Fridays, I wear my Senegalese style outfits, usually some Boubous from my brand. Nevertheless, all you need to keep in mind is that I am turning 43 and still dress in Streetwear fashion. Salut à tous ! J'aurai 43 ans cette année...

Earthquake trauma (Throwback)

Image
Tomorrow will mark the 12th anniversary of the Tohoku eathquake and tsunami in Japan. I was sure that I did blog about my experience of that day in here. But I have searched and searched but could not find any articles that I may have written on it. After all these years, let me take you back. It was a friday afternoon. I was on my way to pick up my older son from school. I had my other son with me. I remembered wearing a red dress with leggings and a coat. I was dressed up because after school, I was to attend a birthday party at the flat of my Indian Mommy friend. Her daughter was in the same Montessori class as my first born.  I was sitting on a bus talking with another Japanese lady I befriended earlier that year. The bus came to a stop at the light right at the slope before we reached the school. Then all of a sudden, it started to shake. Slowly at first, then violently. The bus was rocking left and right. I felt like I was on a boat during a hurricane or one of those cr...

Fashion Ateliers (Zac Posen out of business!!!)

Image
(Very very old post found in my draft) Hello my dears! Today I want to talk about Fashion. Okay, it is not like I do not talk fashion on this blog on a regular basis. It is just that I want to talk about the fashion industry in general. Scarf - is actually a beach cover up Denim top - random shop near my house  Coral pink maxi skirt - random shop near my office  Shoes - Thrifted I have recently heard about Zac Posen going out of business. I am not really familiar with Zac Posen except from seeing him on Project Runaway and on the red carpet from time to time. But learning that he was closing just shocked me because for some reasons I always thought he was successful. I went on to watch a documentary about him on Netflix called "House of Z". I do not want to spoil it for you but it was heartbreaking.  As someone who wants to be a designer someday, watching a documentary on the rise and fall of Zac Posen freaked me out. Granted I do not know a lot about...
