Not all chocolate tastes good!!!

Hello Fam! Since the begining of 2021, so many things have been happening in this world but also in my life. It is hard to believe that we are only two months into this year. I am already having major 2020 deja vu. First off, this freaking desease is not going anywhere. Actually it seems it is gaining momentum. So many people I knew or who were friends of my parents have passed away. It is scary. The new British variant entered our country. We are still under curfew. I am still working half of the time from home, and I try to limit my time outside. Yet, sometimes I have to get out.  Beret - stolen from my Mother Metallic Sweater - Numero Uno Denim skirt - thrifted Slip on shoes - thrifted Bag - Kayoong (birthday gift) One sunday afternoon, tired of staying home and be gloomy, I decided to take the boys out. We went to check this Turkish restaurant that specialised in deserts in downtown Dakar, called Chocolate Sarayi. Since they opened more than a year ago, I always wanted to check...

Unfollow

Hello everyone! How is life treating you? I have been thinking about unfollowing people on Instagram lately. I do follow over 500 accounts but  most of them do not bring me joy anymore.    Glasses - Kiabi Jacket - bought in Pune, India Dress - from a seller in donwtown Dakar Shoes - thrifted Watch - Sea plaza mall   When I started using Instagram a few years ago, it was mainly to follow the fashion bloggers I read on the regular. And the more I used the app, the more I curated it to accounts I really liked. I was following mostly black fashion bloggers, curvy fashion bloggers, and Hijabi fashion bloggers. With time, I added some diy pages, sewing tutorial pages, gossip pages, funny pages, photographers, youtubers, fashion houses, local restaurants and hotels, and finally some celebrities.     In all the years using Instagram, things have drastically changed. Back when I started using it, words like "content creator" or "influencers" did not exist yet or...

Hello! Nothing much to talk about in this post. I just wanted to show you what is actually my favorite dress of the moment.  Midi Striped Dress - Marwa Fashion Boutique   Suede Pumps - Numero Uno Navy blue chiffon scarf - bought from a friend  I bought it back in September 2020 on impulse and managed to wear it three times already, only for work events. I went to the shop to exchange shoes I bought there back in July, and stumbled upon this dress. That same week, I was going to take fabrics to my tailor for him to make me comfortable, no iron required work event suitable dresses. But when I saw the dress, I fell in love. It was just exactly what I was looking for, and the price tag was also very affordable.  I love this dress because it is fluid, does not constrict the body, has stripes, with a little bit of shine courtesy of the metallic fabric, and last but not least tassels and ruffles. Actually I like it so much, I might get it in another color if there is ...

Makeover

Hi y'all! Happy new year and all that! Frankly this year is already off to a great start. I am being sarcastic by the way, because after only a few days, I am having weird 2020 flashback. For starters, the president declared a state of emergency in my city and we are under curfew from 9 pm to 6 am, or is it 5 am?. I actually welcome the measure as I was expecting it. But I was supposed to have a Girls Night Out with some friends, and attend a makeup master class/ private sale event in January. The event has been postponed till March and now I am having a Girls day out with my friends! A few days ago, I saw a fashion blogger asking on Instagram if we had any style goals this year. I answered that I was too focused on surviving what is resembling yet another chaotic year to think about style at all. If there is anything 2020 has taught me is that sometimes making plans and goals is useless. Besides for years, my goal when it comes to style has been to elevate it. And by elevate...

Out of the city

Hello everyone! It is getting chilly in my hometown of Dakar and I could not be happier. The heat we had back in October was unbearable. Speaking of heat, I took advantage of the long weekend we had when celebrating Mawlid to get out of the city with the boys and my brother's family.  We went to Mbour again, to a place called Saly Niakh Niakhal. I booked an entire house on Airbnb once again for a very reasonable price. This time we had a two-story house with four bedrooms and two living rooms. The house also had a pool and a parking place with three kitchens and a huge terrace. The house was a bit dainty but we felt really comfortable. It comes with a security guard who stays on-site and a maid who comes in the morning to clean. The boys enjoying Netflix in the living room The pool area During our stay, we did absolutely nothing except swim in the pool, watch Netflix, cook, eat, and take pictures. The house was quiet and one could retreat inside the rooms and rest. We did ma...

Gingham, Print and Stripe collection

Hello my dears! If you are following me, you know that I have launched my brand some time at the end of last year. It has been over 9 months now since I sold my first item. I have sold many more, thank God. But I will not be channeling Chanel anytime soon. I am still learning about the entire business, particularly the business aspect of it: pricing, marketing, selling, budgeting. When it comes to creating, I sometimes have to stop myself because I am bursting with ideas and I want to do it all. But I am not business savvy. Thankfully, I am surrounded by good people who give me extremely helpful advice.    Anyway, today I wanted to give you a glimpse of what I do. I always wear other people's clothes on this blog. Why not showcase mine? This dress is part of my latest collection made in Gingham, stripes and prints. I am still having a gingham/plaid moment, and stripes are like one my fave print/pattern of all times (I have so many stripes in my closet, it is crazy). So why not...

The good girl

Image
All my life I have been a good girl. Was I an unruly child? No! I was (and still is) a stubborn kid but...When I was a toddler, I would climb on furniture and try to jump from one chair to another. That is how I fell and had to get stitches on my chin.  As a teenager I would sometimes not listen to my parents when it came to visiting boys. And more than once I told them I was going to stay at my cousin's house for the weekend so that I could get a chance to go out dancing with her and her friends.  But a part from that, I was a good girl. I did not talk back to adults, did mostly what I was told to do, and did not get involved in any shenanigans. Even when I lived abroad by myself, the most outrageous thing I have done was having a boyfriend, living next door to him (he ended up marrying me)   Lace sleeves tee - Numero Uno Tutu - thrifted Feathered mules - Centenaire market Stacked necklace - HLM market One day when I was living in the US, my colleagues asked me what was ...
