African printed jacket

Image
Hello dear Readers! How did you ring in the New Year? Mine was spent with my family and best friend, eating a lot, arguing and laughing even more. Happy New Year by the way! I am going to start this new Year with a banging post (if I do say so myself!!!). My best friend gave me a jacket/coat made in Woodin print fabric or commonly known as African prints for my birthday. It is bright yellow with brown and cream circles. Truth be told, I would have never picked such a bright fabric for myself even if I love me some yellow. Therefore it was hard for me to see about styling it. But, during a phone call, my best friend gave me some ideas. And after brainstorming a bit, I found two ways to rock this jacket. Casual Scarf - old Jacket - gift Bodysuit - HM Jeans - HM Bag - Carrefour Dubai Shoes - Zara Beaded Necklace - Sandaga market Dressy Jacket - gift Dress - made it Clutch - Sandaga market Shoes - Gossip Ring -gift Necklace...

Anti Normcore

Image
Have you heard about Normcore ? No? Apparently it is a new fashion trend that is against trends. It is a movement (movement, lol) that glorifies blandness or never standing out in the crowd. People who are considered Normcore followers dress in bland outfits favoring jeans, tees,  beanies and backpacks. I am not sure I fully grasp the concept but I am anti - Normcore. There is nothing bland about my wardrobe for I favor color and prints. Jeans used to be my uniform but I sometimes replaced them with printed or colored pants. I wear beanies during Winter and only inside my home  ( and since we moved in Pune, there is no need for Winter wear!). The way I understand it, Normocore is about going back to simplicity and ditching labels. Fashion has become so complicated ( and expensive) with mixture of textures, prints, quirky things that it can be confusing and daunting. It becomes harder and harder to follow trends for they can be crazy, to tell you the truth. Therefore, wit...

Who wore it better?

Image
I wanted blue skinny pants for a very long time but never found the right pair. I was about to give up when I stumble into this random shop on MG road that had some blue pants in stretchy fabric and in my size. I bought them on impulse instantly regretting it because they fit but not as well as a skinny jean. In other words, they are not jeans, which I think have more support. Plus these tend to sag at the bottom always forcing me to pull them up (something I discovered after I wore them for a day) Anyway, I went home with my new skinny pants, and I am faced with another problem: the styling. I am tired of always going safe with white blouses and denim shirt but what else to pull? I forgot about the pants until I saw a pic of one of my cousin on Facebook rocking the blue pants with a coral blouse. I am thinking that I do have a pink blouse that slightly resemble hers so why not steal her style? VS Black open cardigan and Pants - Same random shop in M.G. Road Pink blouse ...

Ladies who lunch with style!

Image
Today I had lunch with the spouse group of my husband's company. The group meets very often to do various activities all paid by the company. Ain't it wonderful? Anyway, since it was going to be a good day, I decided to dress up a little. Well, I did not dress fancy, but a bit less casual than I usually do. I call this look Ladies who lunch with style. Here is what I wore: Printed scarf (gift from 10 years ago) Suede jacket (bought in Japan years ago) New york company shirt (Ross) Hanes long tee (Walmart) Green cargo pants (Shimamura) Mia Brown suede boots (bought in Australia 6 years ago) Colorful necklace (Joa ) The lunch was nice. And once again I ate a lot. I like having women around. We are all from different places and it is always a learning experience when we meet. I cannot wait for the next activity. I love these cargo pants. They are wide enough and they have a belt. I had this jacket for years but I never once worn it in Houston. I am happy that...

Friend (or Street) style stealer 1st edition: M. 's style

Image
Since I am person who lacks style and elegance ( I think that you have to be born with it), I often get tips on how to dress by looking at people around me, magazines or celebrities on TV. In my other blog: odetofashion.blogspot.com I already started something called Celebrity Style stealer where I mimicked celebrity style. But in this one, I would like to add Friend (or street) style stealer. Recently I met a woman at my son's school. I will call her M. M. is a very simple beauty with no fuss no muss. And she always has the same style that I absolutely adore. She always wear a plain t-shirt, with cargo pants and pumps or sandals. Sometimes, she adds a pretty necklace. Her cargo pants are all ankle length and vary from green to beige and black. Recently with Fall dropping on us, I imagined that she would have to change her style a bit. Instead, she just added a blue trench coat or a black leather jacket to her style and be done with it. I always wanted to ask her why she was dres...
