Life is slowly going back to normal at home after all the tragic recent events. People started to get busy with Eid preparations. And after Eid, the president announced that he won't seek a third term, thus ending the years long debate and in a way apeasing the tensions.
And as for me, I went to Dubai. It was my first trip outside of my country in 7 years. And no, going to the Gambia, which is my second home does not really count.
At the beginning of July, I joined my best friend in Dubai. She had scheduled a trip with her sister and daughter there and asked me to join them. It was our first girls trip since 2003, almost 20 years ago.
For the trip, I wanted to pack light and comfortable clothes since it would be hot in Dubai. I also wanted practical and comfortable clothes because I knew I would be moving a lot.
La vie revient lentement à la normale au Sénégal, après tous les récents événements tragiques. Les gens ont commencé à s'occuper des préparatifs de l'Aïd. Et après l'Aïd, le président a annoncé qu'il ne briguerait pas de troisième mandat, mettant ainsi fin à des années de débat et apaisant en quelque sorte les tensions.
Quant à moi, je suis récement allée à Dubaï. C'était mon premier voyage hors de mon pays en 7 ans. Et non, aller en Gambie, qui est ma deuxième patrie, ne compte pas vraiment.
Début juillet, j'ai rejoint ma meilleure amie à Dubaï. Elle avait prévu un voyage avec sa sœur et sa fille là-bas et m'a demandé de les rejoindre. La dernière fois que nous avons voyagé entre filles c'était en 2003, il y a presque 20 ans.
Pour le voyage, je voulais emporter des vêtements légers et confortables car il ferait chaud à Dubaï. Je voulais aussi des vêtements pratiques et confortables car je savais que je bougerais beaucoup.
Here is what I packed:
Bottoms: black denim pants, printed maxi skirt, pleated palazzo pants
Tops: Rococo printed shirt, white eyelet top, yellow tee, white tee, mutlti-colored tunic, and golden blouse
Outerwear: tie dye kimono, Disney jumper, black cardigan
Others: pastel pink tiered dress, green pants set, black and white Sinniature Boubou, tie dye boubou
Shoes: Maraz golden sandals, white sneakers, jelly sandals, braided mules
Bags: Nanawax tote bag, floral accent backpack, brown clutch
Underwears, slips, pajama, prayer clothes, burqini and swimsuit
For 7 days and 6 nights, that was plenty of clothes. I actually did not wear them all. I think that I brought too many clothes. I thought that with the heat of Dubai I would need to change several times a day. However, we always managed to stay indoors. Plus we were outside most of the day therefore there was no time for me to return to the hotel for a quick change.
Voici ce que j'ai pris pour le voyage :
Bas : jean noir, jupe longue imprimée, pantalon palazzo plissé
Hauts: chemise imprimée rococo, haut blanc à œillets, t-shirt jaune, t-shirt blanc, tunique mutlicolore et chemisier doré
Jacket et autres :Kimono teint, pull Disney, cardigan noir
Autres : robe à volants rose pastel, ensemble pantalon vert, boubou Sinniature noir et blanc, boubou teint
Chaussures: sandales dorées Maraz, baskets blanches, sandales jelly, mules tressées
Sacs: sac fourre-tout Nanawax, sac à dos aux accents floraux, pochette marron
Sous-vêtements, slips, chemises de nuit, vetement de priere, burqini et maillot de bain
Pendant 7 jours et 6 nuits, j'avais suffisement de vêtements. En fait, je ne les ai pas tous portés. J'ai apporté trop de vêtements. Je pensais qu'avec la chaleur de Dubaï j'aurais besoin de me changer plusieurs fois par jour. Cependant, nous passions nos journées dehors, et nous n'avions pas souvent le temps de retourner à l'hôtel pour se changer.
For the first day in Dubai, a saturday which we spent at Dubai mall and Deira City Center, I wore the same black denim pants with a white eyelet tee and my tie dye kimono. I finally wore my Maraz sandals which were orthopedic. I wore the shoes during my entire stay and they were a life saver for I think I walk almost 15km every day.

Pour le voyage à Dubaï, j'ai porté la chemise Roccoco avec le jean noir et les baskets blanches. J'avais un pull Disney avec moi au cas où j'aurais froid.
Pour le premier jour à Dubaï, un samedi que nous avons passé au centre commercial de Dubaï et Deira City Center, j'ai porte le même jean noir avec un t-shirt blanc à œillets et mon kimono teint. J'ai enfin mis mes sandales Maraz qui étaient orthopédiques. J'ai porté les chaussures pendant tout mon séjour et elles m'ont sauvé la vie car je pense que je marchais près de 15 km chaque jour.

For the second day, I wore a tie dye cotton Mumu to go to the Souk. It was actually a great idea because it was so hot there. The Mumu was large and easy to move with.
Pour le 2e jour, j'ai porté ma robe en coton teinte pour aller au Souk. Au final c'était une très bonne idée car il a fait extrement chaud la bas. La robe étant large, c'était très facile de se déplacer avec.

At night, I wore my pink layered dress with a black sweater and a colorful scarf for diner at an Indian restaurant.
Le soir, pour aller diner dans un restaurant indien, j'ai porté ma robe maxi en rose pastel avec le cardigan et un foulard multicolor.

The following day, I premiered my brand new Boubou from Sinniature to go to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The Bubu was long (too long) hence decent enough for the mosque. The Bubu itself is light but it is in man made material therefore I was sweating like a pig when we went to Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) at night. Yes even at night and right in front of the sea, it was hot!
Le lendemain, j'ai porté mon tout nouveau Boubou de Sinniature pour aller à la Mosquée Cheikh Zayed. Le Boubou était long (trop long) donc assez décent pour la mosquée. Le Boubou est léger mais il est fait de tissus synthétiques, donc je transpirais comme un cochon quand nous sommes allées à Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) la nuit. Oui même la nuit et juste en face de la mer, il faisait chaud !

On Tuesday, we went to Dubai Frame and Mercato mall. I wore my Sinniature green pants set. The set was very easy to wear. The bright color was also a mood booster amid my tiredness. Yes, I was extremely tired because every day we would leave the hotel around 11AM to return only past midnight. And once inside our rooms, we would sometimes discuss till past 2 AM.
Le mardi, nous nous sommes rendues à Dubai Frame et au centre commercial de Mercato. J'ai mis mon ensemble pantalon vert de Sinniature. L'ensemble était tellement confortable. Et la couleur vive m'a remonté le moral, avec ma fatigue. Et oui, chaque jour, nous quittions l'hôtel vers 11h du matin pour ne revenir qu'à minuit. Et même de retour dans nos chambres, nous discutions dès fois jusqu'a 2h.

For the following two days, I wore my African print skirt with a yellow tee. I did a lot of walking those days so it was very practical.
Les deux jours suivants, j'ai porté ma jupe en imprimé africain et un t-shirt jaune. J'ai passé ces deux journées à marcher en solo pour faire du shopping donc la jupe a été très pratique.
At nights, I had to change for diner, once in a gold top and back pants to eat with my best friend, and the other time in my pink dress and tie dye kimono for our final diner in Dubai.
J'ai du me changer les nuits, une fois pour porter le pantalon noir et ma chemise dorée pour aller diner avec ma meilleure amie, et une autre fois dans la robe rose maxi et le kimono teint pour notre dernier diner a Dubai.
For the trip back home, I wore my oversized shirt again with the black pants but this time I added a kimono/ABBAYA I bought in Dubai with a grey hoodie. You know how cold it gets on the airplane.
Pour le voyage de retour, j'ai remis la même tenue qu'à l'aller mais cette fois ci j'ai ajouté un kimono/abbaya et pull gris achetés à Dubai. Je déteste avoir froid dans l'avion donc je me prépare toujours en conséquence.
I am not sure when I am travelling again but this time, I will pack less. For one thing, I can always buy more things on site like clothes, which I actually did once in Dubai. And even if I do not find anything I might like, I can always wash the clothes I already used. For 7 days, 9 outfits are more than enough.
And to top it all, I barely used all the extra stuff I packed like the two sunglasses I never used as I was wearing my glasses all the time, the tripod I thought would come in handy for taking videos, and all the make up I barely used. I always tell myself I should pack light but I never learn.
Je ne sais pas quand je voyagerai à nouveau mais quand cela sera le cas, j'emporterai moins d'habits. D'une part, je peux toujours acheter plus de vêtements sur place, ce que j'ai d'ailleurs fait une fois à Dubaï. Et même si je ne trouve rien qui me plaise, je peux toujours laver les vêtements que j'ai déjà utilisés. Pour 7 jours, 9 tenues suffisent amplement. Et pour couronner le tout, j'ai à peine utilisé tous les trucs supplémentaires que j'ai emballés comme les deux lunettes de soleil que je n'ai jamais portées, le trépied que je pensais être utile pour prendre des vidéos, et tout le maquillage que j'ai à peine utilisé. Je me dis toujours que je devrais voyager léger mais je n'apprends jamais.
