Girls Trip: Dubai

As mentionned in my previous post, I went to Dubai with my best friend, her daughter and her sister. I had planned to go to Cairo in May, but the plan fell through because of work. So when my best friend told me about Dubai, I had to go! This was my 3rd or 4th time in Dubai. I have been only on stop over on the way to Senegal from either Japan or India (you can read all about it here, here, here and here. My best friend was living there at the time so it was always great to visit her and do a little sightseeing. It was a dream of mine to come back and properly do Dubai.
Comme mentionné dans mon post précédent, je suis allée à Dubaï avec ma meilleure amie, sa fille et sa sœur. J'avais prévu d'aller au Caire en mai, mais je n'ai pas pu à cause du travail. Alors quand ma meilleure amie m'a parlé de Dubaï, je n'ai pas hésiter ! C'était ma troisième ou quatrième fois à Dubaï. J'y suis déjà allée en 2013 et 2015, mais seulement en escale sur le chemin du Sénégal depuis le Japon ou l'Inde. Ma meilleure amie vivait là-bas à l'époque, donc c'était toujours génial de lui rendre visite et faire un peu de tourisme. C'était un de mes rêves de revenir et de visiter Dubaï proprement.
We stayed for 6 nights and 7 days. Since it was not our first time in Dubai, we had different plans. I have to say that for the first time ever, I did not really plan anything. I was going with the flow. We all wanted to do a little sightseeing and lots of shopping. And that is exactly what we did. We went to 5 malls: Dubai mall, Deira city center, Mall of Emirates, Ibn Batuta mall, Mercato mall. My friend’s sister and I also went to the Souk. We visited Dubai during the Dubai Summer Surprises or big sales season, right after Eid. We shopped at discounted prices in all malls. It was a different tune at the Souk where we had to haggle the prices. I thought we had some good deals but it turns out we have been cheated more than once. Nevertheless we did buy some pretty things.
Nous sommes restées 6 nuits et 7 jours. Comme ce n'était pas notre première fois à Dubaï, nous avions des projets différents. Je dois dire que pour la première fois, je n'avais rien prévu. Nous voulions toutes faire un peu de tourisme et beaucoup de shopping. Et c'est précisément ce que nous avons fait. Nous sommes allées dans 5 centres commerciaux : Dubai mall, Deira city center, Mall of Emirates, Ibn Batuta mall, et Mercato mall. La sœur de mon amie et moi sommes également allées au Souk. Nous avons visité Dubaï pendant les surprises d'été de Dubaï ou la grande saison des soldes, juste après l'Aïd. Nous avons shoppé à des prix réduits dans tous les centres commerciaux. C'était différent au souk où nous devions marchander les prix. Je pensais que nous avions faites de bonnes affaires, mais il s'avère que nous avons été trompées plus d'une fois. Néanmoins, nous avons acheté de jolies choses.
The malls are huge, particularly Dubai mall. And they have everything you need from high end luxury stores to home stores. I particularly like the food courts and restaurants. Usually food courts are bland. But in Dubai they are well decorated with fake flowers and art. It is enticing. Dubai mall also has a beautiful fountain show at night. People gathered around the fountain right outside the mall and in front of Burj Khalifa for a show of water, lights and music.

We did shop till we dropped. But we also managed to do a little sight seeing. We went to Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It was the most beautiful mosque I have ever seen. All white with gold accents and floral murals. I found the chandeliers to be grand and sparkling. We took our time visiting it but also praying.
Nous avons fait beaucoup de shopping. Mais nous avons aussi réussi à faire un peu de tourisme. Nous sommes allées à la mosquée Sheikh Zayed à Abu Dhabi. C'était la plus belle mosquée que j'aie jamais vue. Tout en blanc avec des accents dorés et des peintures murales florales. J'ai trouvé les lustres grandioses et étincelants. Nous avons pris notre temps pour la visiter mais aussi prier.
Then we went to Dubai frame, which is purely a tourist trap. But what is not in Dubai! It is a huge golden frame you climb all the way to the top to have a view of Dubai. It is not as high as the Burj Khalifa but it is still pretty high. The view is nice but what I enjoyed the most was the museum at the entrance of the Dubai Frame where they show a short history of Dubai, and the end where they show the Dubai of the future. There is also the see through bridge where you can walk and see everything down. I have vertigo so you can imagine how thrilling it was.
Ensuite, nous sommes allées à Dubaï Frame, qui est purement un piège à touristes. Mais qu'est-ce qui ne l'est pas à Dubaï ?! C'est un immense cadre doré, vous pouvez monter jusqu'au sommet pour avoir une vue de Dubaï. Ce n'est pas aussi haut que le Burj Khalifa mais c'est quand même assez haut. La vue est belle mais ce que j'ai le plus apprécié, c'est le musée à l'entrée du Dubai Frame où ils montrent une courte histoire de Dubaï, et à la fin où ils montrent le Dubaï du futur. Il y a aussi le pont transparent où vous pouvez marcher et tout voir en bas. J'ai le vertige alors vous pouvez imaginer à quel point c'était excitant.
Besides Dubai frame, we also did Dubai Glow which is a garden. I wanted to try Miracle garden but it was closed. Dubai glow had three main attractions, a dinosaur park, magic park and glow garden. We did the dinosaur park with realistic dinosaur robots, which would move and make noise upon our passage. Then at 7pm, the glow garden was lit. There were many installations such as animals, flowers, and tunnels all with different types of illumination. It looked magical.
Outre Dubaï Frame, nous avons également fait Dubai Glow. Je voulais essayer le Miracle Garden mais il était fermé. Dubai glow avait trois attractions principales, un parc de dinosaures, un parc magique et un jardin lumineux. Nous avons fait le parc des dinosaures avec des robots dinosaures réalistes, qui bougeaient et faisaient du bruit à notre passage. Puis à 19 heures, le jardin lumineux a été allumé. Il y avait de nombreuses installations telles que des animaux, des fleurs et des tunnels, tous avec différents types d'éclairage. Ça avait l'air magique.
The last sightseeing stop for us was Dubai Marina and Jumeira Beach. We went there three times to take a stroll and have diner. It felt really nice to walk on the pier. But it was really hot.
La dernière étape touristique pour nous était la marina de Dubaï et la plage de Jumeira. Nous y sommes allées trois fois pour nous promener et dîner. C'était vraiment agréable de marcher sur la jetée. Mais il faisait vraiment chaud.
What I liked the most about Dubai is that it is a safe city. Many nights we came back to the hotel past midnight. My friend and I were walking in Dubai marina till 1 am. No one came to bother us expect some sellers. We were secure. The other thing I like is that Dubai never seems to sleep. On a week night, people were outside till late enjoying themselves. Shops and restaurants ar open till past midnight. You would think only the young would be out. But sometimes you would see entire families with young kids taking a stroll.
The other thing I particularly enjoyed was the convenience of it all. They make it easy for you. It starts from the airport, the moment you go through immigration they give you a free SIM card to use. Although It is only for 24h. Then, right outside immigration you can exchange money. And the rate does not differ from one place to the other. You also have banks where you can withdraw money. Outside you can grab a taxi easily. And you also have the option to have a lady cab (in pink) with a female driver. At the mall, everything is designed for you to spend your money. Right outside the metro exit, there are money exchange offices and banks. You can even download apps and get better deals on the shopping experience. Right before leaving, I discovered that when you register your passport at shops, you can get tax return at the airport before checking in. Do you know how much money I could have saved if I did that? At the mall you also have clean restrooms, and even prayer rooms. I even saw some mall taxis for people who are too tired or too lazy to walk. The only thing missing are beds for people to sleep but there is absolutely everything you need there.
L'autre chose que j'ai particulièrement appréciée, c'est la commodité. Ils vous facilitent la tâche. Cela commence à partir de l'aéroport, au moment où vous passez l'immigration, ils vous donnent une carte SIM gratuite à utiliser. Bien que ce ne soit que pour 24h. Ensuite, juste devant l'immigration, vous pouvez échanger de l'argent. Et le tarif ne diffère pas d'un endroit à l'autre. Vous avez également des banques où vous pouvez retirer de l'argent. Dehors, vous pouvez facilement prendre un taxi. Et vous avez également la possibilité d'avoir un taxi féminin (en rose) avec une conductrice. Au centre commercial, tout est conçu pour que vous dépensiez votre argent. Juste à la sortie du métro, il y a des bureaux de change et des banques. Vous pouvez même télécharger des applications et obtenir de meilleures offres sur l'expérience d'achat. Juste avant de partir, j'ai découvert que lorsque vous enregistrez votre passeport dans les magasins, vous pouvez vous faire rembourser les taxes d'achat à l'aéroport avant de prendre votre vol. Savez-vous combien d'argent j'aurais pu économiser si j'avais fait cela ? Au centre commercial, vous avez également des toilettes propres et même des salles de prière. J'ai même vu des taxis à l'interieur du centre commercial pour les personnes trop fatiguées ou trop paresseuses pour marcher. La seule chose qui manque, ce sont des lits pour que les gens dorment, mais il y a absolument tout ce dont vous avez besoin.
Finally, the cleanliness of Dubai was a game changer for me. The streets are spotless, the restrooms cleaned all the time. Usually when I am outside I refrain from going to the public toilets particularly in Dakar unless I go to restaurant. But in here it was a pleasure going. And they had so many mirrors to take selfies.
Enfin, la propreté de Dubaï a changé la donne pour moi. Les rues sont impeccables, les toilettes nettoyées tout le temps. D'habitude quand je suis dehors je m'abstiens d'aller aux toilettes publiques surtout à Dakar à moins d'aller au restaurant. Mais ici, c'était un plaisir d'y aller. Et ils avaient tant de miroirs pour prendre des selfies.
I cannot say it all in one post. I might write articles on every place I visited later so stay tuned. For now, just know that I had a great time. After just one week, I did not want to go back home. I wanted to stay. Now, I just want to go back in Dubai but with my boys. The fun we would have. Hopefully soon Inshallah.
Je ne peux pas tout dire en une seule publication. Je pourrais écrire des articles sur chaque endroit que j'ai visité plus tard, alors restez à l'écoute. Pour l'instant, sachez que j'ai passé un très bon moment. Après seulement une semaine, je ne voulais plus rentrer chez moi. Je voulais rester. Maintenant, je veux juste retourner à Dubaï mais avec mes garçons. J'espère que cela sera pour bientôt Inchallah.
