Me, myself and I

Image
So I did something I have been dreaming of doing for quite some time: I booked a room in a hotel in the city. The plan was to get away somewhere nicer in the country such as our coast or Sine Saloum. But such trip involves a car. And since I do not have any, I gave up on that idea. And I am not willing to get on a bus with other people for long hours during this pandemic. I also had the opportunity to book a trip via agencies but they were either out of my budget or never at the right time for me. So after searching for weeks, I just booked a room at the Savana Hotel in the city. Savana hotel is a very old hotel in Dakar probably older than me. I used it last year to celebrate my youngest's birthday with the entire family. This time I booked a room for one night because I found a good deal on the internet. With the recession caused by the coronavirus, a lot of hotels in the country have been forced to reduce their prices or offer limited time deals. Prices are often slashed in ha...

Djinn Boyfriend (Farrou Rap)

Image
Hello my dears.  It has been more than a year since I posted about my love life or lack there of. I thought I would give you a little update. I hope you are interested.  Dress - tailor made Simple version of the KOONI dress from my latest collection Shoes - Adanif However, I am not going to just talk about my love life. Today I want to brush the subject of "Farrou Rap". A "Farrou Rap" can be loosely translated to "Djinn Boyfriend". A djinn can be described as a super natural being in Islamic Arabic mythology. In my country it is believed that women who are unlucky in love have djinn boyfriends. I actually saw an entire list of all the "symptoms" of having a djinn boyfriend on Twitter recently, and sadly I think I have some of them. But first let me share them with y'all so you have an idea of what I am talking about. Basically the post on Twitter says that these below are the symptoms of having a djinn boyfriend: - does not want to get marr...

Back to work (featuring a grey dress)

Image
Hello everyone! How are you doing? I hope you are not letting this disease take over your life. I am doing fine all things considered. I have recently gone back to work. Since March, we have been assigned to work from home. It was quite the task and I needed to go to the office from time to time just to check on some files. But since July I have been back. It is still not permanent because we are doing shifts. I go every other two days at the office, and I also have meetings outside. I actually do not mind going back to work because I recently discovered that working from home is a scam. We are told to respect the same hours as the office, but you often find yourself answering a work email at midnight on a Saturday. And do not get me started on entitled bosses who think they can reach you 24/7 just because they have access to your Whatsapp  number.  Scarf - borrowed from my Mom Blazer - old, bought in Seoul in 2002 Dress - HLM market Belt - Sandaga market Shoes ...

White Jeans

Image
Hello my dear readers. I hope you are all doing fine. Today, I would like to discuss a fashion item that has been scaring me for as long as I could remember: White Jeans.   For the longest time, I avoided White Jeans. I did own a pair of tied dyed white blue jeans (featured  here  ) but that was as far as I would go. There is something about white jeans that scared me. First off, I am not one of those super clean ladies who can manage to wear white without messing herself up. Besides, my city of Dakar is not really the place to wear white due to pollution, dust and so on. On top of that, I had the feeling that white jeans, unlike black ones would not hide any of my curves. And I was not confident enough to rock them. Yet, I have decided that I will not let my fears of getting dirty or lack of confidence deter me from owning a white pair of jeans. After searching a while, I got lucky one day at the market. I scored this pair originally from M&S that I suspect to...

Summer breezing

Image
Hello y'all!   Summer is finally here. It is so very hot, I really find it hard to find suitable clothes to wear. And it does not help that I sweat as soon as I get out of the shower. Sometimes it is so hard to find something to wear that I'd rather stay home. But that is no longer an option. Since the month of July I have to go to the office at least twice a week. This means that I have to find something suitable for work in my closet.     Shirtdress - Zara  Palazzo pants - Encuentro  Shoes - Street vendor in Sandaga market Bag - Zara  Ring - Street vendor in HLM market    I was actually happy to be back at the office. I have to admit that staying at home was boring at times. One cannot be watching Netflix, or sketch all day. Plus I like the idea of digging through my wardrobe to find something to wear for work. These last few months have been hard on the style section of my life. I was pretty much living in Mumus at home...

Style Rut featuring the Kaftan

Image
Hello   Didn't I tell you that I was basically living in Mumus since the beginning of this pandemic? I call it a style rut but it ain't that bad. For starters, sometimes you are gifted a Mumu that you can wear outside.   Kaftan - gift Leggings - Decathlon Mules - thrifted   Case in point this Mumu, that is not really a Mumu but a Kaftan a dear friend gifted me recently. It is in a man made soft fabric, oversized, in a fun colorful print and has some embellishment. Can a girl ask for more?   I wore it for work the other day because I could not be bothered. I added simple leggings but it could be easily paired with pants or skinny jeans. The final touch were these white mules I thrifted from a street vendor in HLM market. I am obsessed with delicate strappy mules. I already have one in black but the white is so summery don't you think?   The Kaftan is oversized. I actually could take it in a bit. But I like it as it is. I may or may not add a belt next time I wear...

Salmon Pink

Hi y'all!!!   I went and did something quite unexpected recently. I had lunch with two friends. How funny it is that less than 4 months ago, having lunch with friends was considered to be a normal thing. But now with this pandemic it has become something extraordinary.  When a girlfriend of mine asked me to go have lunch with her and another friend, I have to admit that I was skeptical. I had one million questions going through my head. Should I go? Is it safe? What if I catch the virus? But then I decided that I could not stop living just because of this disease.   So I went to have lunch at a nice spot in the city called Cremino. The restaurant was taking precaution providing hand sanitizers and cleaning up but that was about it. There was not such a thing as social distancing. I wore a mask up until I was served my food. I also washed my hands before eating. But was that enough?    Cremino is a nice restaurant located in Dakar, on Lamine Gueye Avenue to be m...
