Bohemian Tour

Do you want me to read your palm and tell you your future? Well I am no palm reader but today's s outfit could have fooled you. Scarf - old Dress - Thrifted Feathered mules - Centenaire market Bag and earrings - UNO I wore this dress for a monthly get together with my cousins on my Dad's side of the family. Every first Saturday of the month, we meet at someone's place, chat, and pay a fee to the host. The fee is already determined as well as the host for each month. We call this get together "Tour" which means "a turn" in french. It is a very popular social gathering in my country. When I was growing up, my father used to do have one with his former college friends. Sometimes he would take my brothers and I with him and I would meet his friends' kids. We would have so much fun playing while the adults talked. I also enjoyed it when it was my father's turn to host because my Mother would cook delicious food fit for an entire a...

Follow back!

Hello Hello!  I have already told you that I am very present on Social media. And I also told you about the things I cringe on those platforms. Today I bring you another rant about a new pet peeve on Instagram. I have been noticing new followers on my Instagram page. I have been really excited about it because I thought that I would finally reach 300 followers. But every week, the number would drop back to 280 without me understanding why. Then after doing some research, it finally hit me. All my new followers were just people promoting their business in hopes that I will be intrigued and use their services or at least follow them back. And I suppose most of them just un-followed me when they realized that I did not follow back. It was kind of petty. But I guess it is another strategy in this social media world. Scarf -old from India Top - Zara (thrifted) Zipper cropped pants - Zara (from UNO shop) Pumps - Consept (now closed down, Sea Plaza mall) When u...

While y'all are already thinking about your fall wardrobe, we in Dakar are still going to enjoy Summer till October or further. The cold really comes in my city after December. Therefore we will be fanning ourselves probably till 2019. This means that for a while I will have to rely on a wardrobe that is versatile and easy breezy to survive the heat wave.  I did some shopping to try to add those versatile pieces to my wardrobe this Summer. I concentrated on thrifted things because I did not want to spend too much money. I wanted tops that were easy to wear, easy to style and vibrant. As for the bottoms, I wanted an alternative to jeans. So, I went for skirts, maxi and midis. It is too hot to have something between the legs that will chafe you. Maxi skirts in chiffon or cotton are going to be my friend this season. Finally I wanted maxi dresses in chiffon that require minimal to no ironing. I was lucky enough to find almost everything that I needed at Colobane market. Colo...

Heatwave

Image
Hi Y'all! It is getting too hot to properly function. I just want to stay home under the fan and nap all day. What about you? To stay cool, I opt to dress with light fabric like cotton and linen. Man made material can easily turn into the enemy under this heat. Yet I chose to wear this jersey skirt today. Printed scarf - Gift Chambray shirt - thrifted (Liberte 6 market) Jersey maxi skirt - HLM market Shoes - La Folie Necklace and Earrings - MG road market (India) Bracelet - Saturday Market Ring - so old but probably bought in Japan Lipstick - Kiko I thought of this ensemble the night before wearing it. I love a good jersey skirt in grey color. And this one right here is just perfect because the fabric is light; yet the skirt is too long. So long that it can actually become a sleeveless dress. I have never worn the skirt to work because it is the type of skirt that shows all my curves. But I was determined to try it with this chambray ...

Staycation

This year for Summer, I had decided to take just a few days off and get out of the city. I wanted to go to a quiet and private place. So I went with my brother, his new wife and my two boys to Mbour, which is a city a few kilometers outside of Dakar, and stayed in a beautiful house with a pool not far from the beach. More about it on the other blog. I wanted a house with a private pool because I wanted to swim without being bothered by other people. As much as I enjoy hotel pools, I cannot see myself wearing a swimsuit in public nowadays. The reason being modesty, not liking my current body and being fearful of what people might say.   Anyway we stayed in Keur Dan for three nights and 4 days, swimming, sleeping, eating, playing cards and doing a bit of sightseeing.  Straw hat- borrowed from Sis in law Cover up - Petersen market Dress - thrifted, Colobane market Wedges - Thrifted, Saturday Market  On the last day, we had family over f...

Culotté (Social Media Etiquette)

Image
Hello Today's post will be a lengthy rant about the lack of etiquette in using social media. (You have been warned) I am a fan of social media. Each of the ones I use serves a different purpose. I go on Facebook to connect with my friends who are scattered all over the world. Whatsapp also serves the same purpose except that it is reserved for those friends that I have a closer connection with. I use Instagram and Blogger to share my passion for fashion. I also use it to travel without ever living my house. I also use Pinterest for fashion and styling tips. And finally I go on Twitter to relieve my stress and laugh out loud. I am very present on social media. I like to engage in discussions, drool on styles and troll my friends. But what I hate the most is when someone in my circle sends me a porn video or some other sensitive thing. Recently, a male friend of mine sent me a porn video. We were chatting on Whatsapp and he asked me what I was doing. I answered that I was ...
